Old maps or plans, especially those of Abergele and District, have held a fascination for me for as long as I can remember. The one above and those in an earlier but related posting are no different, not least because they include detailed images of Peel Street where I spent the first dozen or so of my years, living at No.25. I often wondered when the properties had been built. Denis Parr, through his past postings on this site, has provided images of the old houses and now, through this map, has enabled me a better view of the street dating to 1865. So far, the earliest record I have come across was a simplified town plan dating to 1862 in Ellis Wynne Williams book, Abergele, The Story of a Parish. I feel sure that Peel Street probably predates even that. Despite protracted searches on-line though, I’ve not come across anything to substantiate that. Can any of our readers help? Perhaps Dennis has further images of old(er) local maps in his records. Over to you all.
